Tornado Sleeps
The day is thick
With the weight if it
Uncertainty and danger
Carried by the very air
Heat on sweaty skin
Crack of thunder in the wind
Humidity and darkness
Seems they’re closing in
Misbegotten child of wind
Building on the plain
Growing anger, dust and wail
Waiting to exhale
It builds its fury steadily
And fuels itself with fear
Seems it knows its retribution
And its time is near
Still this tornado sleeps
Its hatred and its anger grow
Building hellish turbulence
Funneling its energy
Does this tornado sleep?
Stepsister of a summer’s breeze
Write your destruction upon the earth
Scribe your vengeance in the dust
Awake!

tornado chasers are fascinating in what they do…nature at its best…
After glancing at where you’re from, i would think this is more about the hurricane that occurred recently than a tornado.
I love the rhythm and words of this. That’s what really grabs me with poetry- the words, the rhythm as they fall across your tongue. (usually on the first read through, meaning totally falls by the wayside.)
I really like this. Nature is so beautiful, yet destructive sometimes. Awesome in the truest sense of the word: full of awe.

i reeeeeally really like this one! it’s most clever – very intense and… its kind of alive. which is why i like the last line, its quite appropriate both to the structure and the subject of the poem. yay!
